BALI Industry Award Winners 2002
Hard landscaping

We are delighted to announce our recent National Landscape Award from the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) for a civil engineering and landscape construction project on the Cardiff Bay Barrage, Europe's largest fresh water lagoon.

We were appointed by Cardiff Harbour Authority to construct a pedestrian link across the 800m barrage to provide public access with a two level central viewing point, seating areas and high and low level lighting.

Completed in two phases, and within the £850,000 budget, we used our extensive experience and resource to design and install the majority of the materials required for the project.

Martyn Hughes, Managing Director of Gerald Davies Ltd said, "We were delighted to win the contract to work on what is widely recognised as one of the most exciting civil engineering projects in the UK. The fact that the quality of our work has won us this national award reflects the dedication and experience of the team."

"The company has grown steadily over the past 17 years and we have successfully completed over 1500 projects in Wales and the South West. Winning this award will certainly inspire our team to continue to grow and develop."

Councillor Marion Drake, Cabinet Member (Culture, Sport and Enterprise) said, "Cardiff Harbour Authority is delighted that the landscaping work undertaken on the barrage has received such recognition. This award is testament to the hard work of the contractors, Gerald Davies Ltd, as well as Cardiff County Council's design team......the barrage is now developing to be a wonderful visitor attraction with views into the Bay itself as well as out to the Bristol Channel. With the completion of the landscaping, the barrage is now a desirable place for people to spend their leisure time."
